As MMA fans, a large part of what drives interest in the sport comes in the form of the narratives that we latch onto in the lead up to watching the game’s most recognizable faces compete.
Too much hype can drown out our sense of reality, just like a lack of it can dampen our appreciation for what’s actually happening.
And though MMA is an entertainment product at its core, that doesn’t mean its sporting aspects should be ignored.
That doesn’t apply to all of these fighters, but for this video, I wanted to draw attention to five fighters that – for one reason or another – I believe to be sorely misunderstood, or underrated by the masses.
